Position Purpose:
The Instructional Designer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining effective, engaging, and scalable training resources for franchise owners and their teams nationwide. Working cross-functionally, the Instructional Designer translates business needs into effective learning solutions across eLearning, virtual learning, job aids, and training presentations.
This role also serves as primary administrator for the Learning Management System and Knowledge Base, ensuring scalability, content accuracy, usability, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate is a tech-savvy and creative detail-oriented learning professional who excels at building intuitive engaging learning and enabling consistent, high-quality training across a growing franchise network.

Essential job functions include but are not limited to:
  • Develop and maintain expertise in The Spice & Tea Exchange® mission, values, products, processes, and franchise operations.
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable, standardized training programs for new store openings and existing franchise owners and teams.
  • Own the creation and lifecycle management of learning assets, including eLearning, virtual learning, job aids, and training presentations.
  • Serve as primary administrator for the Learning Management System (LMS) and Knowledge Base, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with subject matter experts and cross-functional teams to translate business needs into effective learning solutions.
  • Apply instructional design methodologies (ADDIE and AGILE) and leverage AI-enabled tools to accelerate content development, personalization, and continuous improvement.
  • Apply adult learning principles and evaluation frameworks (e.g., Bloom’s Taxonomy, Kirkpatrick Levels) to assess and improve training effectiveness.
  • Identify, track, and communicate training KPIs and performance metrics to support franchise growth and operational consistency.
  • Collaborate with Franchise Enablement and Operations teams to support execution of performance-focused learning initiatives.
  • Design and maintain store-level learning pathways, including Spice UniversiTea curriculum and resources.
  • Develop training content using tools such as Microsoft 365, Canva, Articulate 360, Kahoot, and LMS platforms.
  • Support the design, launch, and optimization of new learning technologies, systems, and tools.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and exceptional guest experience across the franchise system. 
 Knowledge and Job Requirements:
  • 3+ years of experience crafting programs, managing learning goals, and using LMS/eLearning tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Learning & Development, Organizational/Behavioral Psychology, Communications, or a related field, preferred.
  • Proven experience as an Instructional Designer in a corporate or retail learning environment.
  • Portfolio of instructional design work (eLearning modules, microlearning, job aids, videos, or learning campaigns).
  • High fluency in Articulate 360 (Storyline & Rise) with demonstrated experience building interactive, performance-based eLearning.
  • Experience leveraging AI-enabled tools to enhance learning design, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Experience creating microlearning assets for just-in-time learning.
  • Experience developing training videos, including scripting, storyboarding, and basic editing.
  • Experience incorporating gamification strategies to drive engagement and retention.
  • Strong experience with Learning Management Systems, including content navigation, organization, and administration.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365 and Canva.
  • Ability to apply instructional design methodologies (ADDIE and Agile) and adult learning principles (e.g., Bloom’s Taxonomy, Kirkpatrick Levels.)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with high emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Ability to manage timelines, collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and meet tight deadlines. 
  • Confidence in supporting live, virtual, or hybrid learning environments.
  • Experience designing training for retail or franchise environments (store operations, frontline teams, multi-location businesses), preferred.
  • Experience supporting or administering a Knowledge Base in addition to an LMS, preferred.
  • Familiarity with franchise or multi-unit business models, preferred.
 Physical Requirements to perform the essential functions of this job:
  • Minimal travel (up to 10%) by plane and car to headquarters, events, meetings, and stores across the US, including occasional overnight stays.
  • Availability to occasionally work evenings or weekends in support of company initiatives and training events.
  • Consistent ability to utilize hands and fingers to perform tasks as necessary for job duties, which may include operating office equipment, computers, handling materials, or typing (8+ hours per day).
  • Consistent capacity for visual acuity to observe, and assess performance gaps related to store systems, training execution, and learning collateral (8+ hours per day).
  • Consistently communicate in English utilizing both written and oral methods including the use of speech and hearing to communicate effectively with team members, customers, and the ability to engage in verbal discussions and listen attentively (8+ hours per day).
  • Consistent ability to perform various physical tasks that require continuous standing (8+ hours per day), walking (8+ hours per day), bending (8+ hours per day), reaching (8+ hours per day), squatting, (8+ hours per day), lifting; up to 25 lbs.(8+ hours per day), carrying (8+ hours per day), pushing/pulling (8+ hours per day), and maneuvering within an office, store, or event workspace (8+ hours per day).
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks (8+ hours per day).
  • Consistently work around spices; must not be sensitive or allergic to various scents, spices, fruits, extracts, aromas, or personal protective equipment (8+ hours per day).
